Over the last few weeks the Lamplighter Gift Shop at Tanner Medical Center / Carrollton has been closed due to remodeling.  Several pictures will be added sometime today on Tanner’s Facebook page for all to see. The gift shop is scheduled to reopen today, Monday the 20th. Very excited to visit sometime this week!

TiendaVera Cruz 3 is now open on Maple Street across from Club Fitness. This is a Mexican grocery store which now occupies the whole building. The owner told us they will sell mainly grocery items including meat. The number for the location is 678-664-1500. The store will be open from 9 am to 9 pm.

Roopville Road Baptist Church broke ground on its new sanctuary February 10th of this year.

The $7.4 million, 54,021-square-foot rock facade building will house one of the largest Christian sanctuaries in West Georgia, seating 1,250 people and containing adjoining wings for children’s activities and music and office suites.

“It’s going to allow us to meet our current space requirements and prepare for future needs,” said Bryant Turner, Minister of Music and Administration. “In 2004, we outgrew our old sanctuary and we’ve been holding services in the Christian Life Center. Once the worship center is open, this will allow the Christian Life Center to be used as a full-time gym for recreational activities. We currently have to put out all the seats for services and then take them down again when we have recreational events.”  The current old sanctuary building, with church offices, will continue to be used as middle and high school worship space and education spaces for Sunday school classes.

Footing Construction Began May 14th, 2013

The former Ruby’s Diner wasn’t empty for long. A new restaurant will open very soon called Goldtown Grill. From the looks of it inside Goldtown could open in a matter of days. A tip from a Facebook fan caught our eye so we went and took a picture of the location. It is directly across from the Villa Rica Diner and the High School. Goldtown Grill does not have a Facebook page just yet. Their Grand Opening is happening Monday, May 20th. They will be open 10AM-4PM Monday -Friday.

Mattress Junction has served the area for 7 years and is set to close at the end of the month. We spoke to Rhett, who is the general manager at the store and told us the owner’s health has led to the unfortunate closure. The family had several other mattress stores in the area. Some of those have closed as well. Mattress Junction has a limited supply of inventory left but it is all 50% off. They are located off Highway 61 in the small shopping plaza near Ocharley’s. Rhett also tells us some good news is that they hope to reopen in a year after the owner recovers from his surgery.

Dorks Textbooks is moving to a smaller location at the corner of Lovvorn Road and Brumbelow Road. This will be in the newest shopping center on the corner. They have been at their location behind Chevron for a year. The bookstore will be in a more visible location. Also students can easily walk down from UWG to the store. More details on the exact moving date soon.

Carrollton’s newest consignment gallery is scheduled to open on May 22nd according to local press. They will offer 5,000 sq ft of antiques, furniture, jewelry, unique gifts, etc. They are going to be located at 123 Columbia Drive in Carrollton. This is directly across the street from TC Rose.

The Carrollton T.J. Maxx hired a few people Thursday in preparation for a complete overhaul of the store’s interior. A representative of the store told us T.J. Maxx hired a few people at the Goodwill Career Center. The hiring will be temporary positions for 5 weeks. T.J. Maxx is bringing the Carrollton store up to date with its new prototype stores. They are adding quite a few upgrades including renewing the fixtures and moving things around. The Carrollton store will not have “The Runway”. Some Atlanta and Birmingham stores feature “The Runway” which is a higher priced selection of fine clothes.

JC’s Mattress and More has moved across town to Tower Plaza off Bankhead Hwy. They were located on Highway 27 next to Ballew’s Music for many years until May 2. They feature Furniture and Home Decor. JC’s carries used / consigned furniture as well (not used mattresses). The exact address of the new location is 513 Bankhead Hwy. Their number will remain the same which is 770-832-1193.
